| Exclusive Interview with Bassist Dino Kourelis of Lovehammers
This is a short interview via email on 9/19/2005 by MartyCasey.org Co-editor Amy Pascoe with Dino Kourelis of Lovehammers:
What has been your favorite performance by Marty on RockStar: INXS so far and why?
Dino: Trees - because it is the only original he was able to play. I like our version better, but I think he did a good job with the time constraints...
Did Lovehammers realize the overwhelming publicity Marty's appearance on the show would cause? How have you handled it?
Dino: Yes we did! We have just been working day and night, trying to fill orders, and respond to everyone that e-mails or writes us. My first concern is the fans, then press/radio. Most people would reverse that, but I think it is the fans that make bands... I also try to make sure there is a handwritten "Thank You" in every order that comes through our website.
Does Marty know the scope of his popularity not only in the USA, but worldwide?
Dino:I haven't talked to Marty except for a few hugs and "proud of yous"
What were Marty's expectations going into this contest?
Dino: I can't speak for Marty, but as a whole, I think our expectations were for Marty to show the world how great he was, and get some exposure for Lovehammers. Win or Lose we wanted people to hear our music - "Spread the Love" Chicago has a horrible support system for developing bands. GREAT FANS, but the industry really lacks the support.
What has inspired Lovehammers to stay together for so long?
Dino: We are all like brothers. I would kill for anyone of the other guys in the band, and they would do the same (at least I think so - lol). Sometimes that has gotten certain members in trouble and thrown in jail (can't elaborate), but generally a good thing. The greatest thing about us is that we understand each other, respect each other, and have lived together for so long, we can pretty much get through anything. You can't fake music or passion and you can't piece a band together. That is something that just happens naturally. The public can spot a fake miles away. We are lucky enough to have a special bond musically and personally that let us create great music, and put on great live shows.
In your eyes, has Marty stayed true to his musical integrity throughout this contest? Has he compromised too much?
Dino: I think he compromised, but that is what musicians do. If you are stubborn, and won't compromise, you won't be successful. I think he has been held back and the public has only seen glimpses of how great he is, but I am sure they will see more whether it is with INXS, Lovehammers, or any other band he is in.
What would you like fans & supporters of Marty to know about him that we've not seen on the show?
Dino: That is a sock shoved down his pants.
